Only having No Problem Raceway/Circuit Grand Bayou in Donaldsonville, LA to compare it to, I didn’t have much reference on what an actual motorsports facility should be. This brand new New Orleans-based track is in its infancy, meaning you probably haven’t heard one lick about it or its facilities, unless you’ve seen coverage of one of the drift days there, NODRFT-New Orleans Drifters hosted drift days there.Īs a resident of South Louisiana I know when I first heard the rumors spreading that a racetrack was being built in Avondale, which is just outside the city, I was skeptical as to how good it could be. I think the Mustang experience is the better value, but driving a 458 Italia at 150mph and then braking for a 70mph turn is something special.Take a moment and think of your favorite race track in the world…names like Silverstone, Nϋrburgring, De La Sarthe, Suzuka and Bathurst may come to mind for you, but for me it’s NOLA Motorsports Park. I have not driven with the current company running the exotic drives. I have also done the exotic drives, and driving a Ferrari or GTR on track is also awesome, but it gets expensive. That leaves out some of the best bits of the track.

It is on the full 2.75 mile course, as compared to the exotic drives that run the 1.8 mile course. The Mustangs are factory race cars, so it feels like you are driving a real race car, because you are. It is fun, and if you have never driven on track before, it is exhilarating. A few people did manage to spin, despite leaving traction control on. The first session was highway speeds (80ish mph), with the last session around 125+ at the end of the long straight. They were lead-follow, so the instructor was out front with three student cars behind.

When I did it, it was $500 for three 20 minute sessions, plus a few hot laps with the instructors driving. I am an expert at spending money there, so let me know if you have any other questions. There will be exotics running late July (you can drive, ride or just watch), so that may be a fun time to go also. It is always a good idea to call before you go to find out what is happening and if the rental kart track is open. If the weather is nice on June 28, you could watch auto races and sprint kart races in the afternoon, then rent karts when it cools off a bit.Ĭheck their web page and Facebook for more events and info. So June 28 or July 19 is probably your best bang for your buck. There is a PCA event July 19-20, with an autocross in the morning of July 19. There is a NASA event June 28-29 (with racing), with a Sprint Kart race in the evening of June 28. Look for PCA (Porsche) or NASA (not that NASA) events on weekends. However, it is probably more fun to go when there is an event running on the main track or autocross.

There is an air-conditioned cafe to cool off in between sessions. With the summer heat, it is probably nicer to go late in the evening. That does not seem like a lot of time, but most beginners are only good for one or two sessions. I believe it is $15-20 for a 10 minute session. The rental karts are cheaper on Mondays and some other special days. There is a $5 entrance fee to cover insurance.

I go several times a month! I started with the rental karts and their Mustang Experience two years ago when they first opened, and now I own my own kart and I attend track days with my car on a regular basis.
